He picked us!

After Marley and Me, Jeff decided he wanted to get a dog. So we began looking around, and I found an ad on Craigslist. FREE BLACK LABS! I was super excited, I called the lady spoke with her about her beauitful FREE black lab puppies! We set up an appointment for Saturday at 11 am. I even called her back to make sure there would still be puppies. If not we would come during the week. She assured me that she wasn't showing the puppies until Saturday. We were all pretty excited all week long about these puppies, thinking of names. Jeff and I had already decided on naming him Dexter, after a TV show that we all like.

So Saturday morning, Zach knocks on our door at 7:30, asking if it's time to get ready to go see puppies.. He was just a little excited ! We told him no, we will wake you up. So we all get up get ready, and make the treck out to South Austin. I call the lady about 10:30 telling her we are on our way. She tells me, Oh Im so glad you called, all the puppies are gone. I said you have to be kidding, I called and made sure you weren't showing the puppies until today. Then she asked me, well didn't I tell you to come out and put a collar on one of them. I said, NO YOU DID NOT! YOU TOLD ME TO COME OVER ON SATURDAY!!! I said something to the effect of thats rude, and really crappy, you had my number, you should have called... Believe me, I wanted to say ALOT more !!!

I was so mad at this point that I just wanted to go home. But Jeff was determined to get us a puppy, so we went to Petsmart. They had some cute ones, but none that just seemed like our little Dexter. Then we went to the Pound in Austin. I felt so bad for some of these dogs. They ranged from really old, to really young, sick, beat up and all alone. There were a few cute ones there, two that we really liked. One of those got adopted right before we walked up to the counter, and the other one wasn't up for adoption until later this week. So we left there again empty handed, without our little Dexter.

We were getting ready to give up, when I called the Humane Society,it was litterally right down the road, so we went there. I was up front filling out paperwork, while Jeff was in the back looking at puppies. He came running up to me like a little kid! ( I really wish I could have captured that moment, Jeff looked so cute)He tells me there is a black lab puppy in the back named.... DEXTER ! I thought he was kidding, but I went to the counter, and asked about Dexter, and told them we wanted to take him out and play with him. The guy told us that there was a hold on him until 3 pm.... but that we could be put down as the 2nd hold. If the first people weren't there by 3:05, he was ours! We played with Dex for about 15 minutes, and decided it was up to fate, if it was meant to be, it would happen...so we left.

We showed back up at 3:02, and Dexter was still there! The other people never showed up for him.. We quickly paid our $85, and signed my name.. So he is offically ours! We get to pick him up this week, after the gets fixed.

This truley is a case, where this dog picked us to be his family, not us picking him to be our dog! And of course, we aren't changing his name!

So come visit our newest addition, it's no baby, but Dex will work for now!
